James Massek was born in 1980 in Masai mara, Transmara district along the ololoolo escarpment. One day the Friends of Conservation, whose policy it is  to conserve nature, came to his school. He was chosen as the chairman of the club and quickly developed an interest in wildlife and nature. James had worked with &Beyond for 2 years before he got the opportunity to go to the Mwewe Ranger Training School in Tanzania. James is based at Kichwa Tembo camp, Masai Mara.
