&Beyond is delighted to announce the successful reintroduction of an additional eight servals onto Phinda Private Game Reserve! These felines were brought in from the Moholoholo Rehabilitation Centre near Hoedspruit to increase the density of this once-hunted species back onto the Reserve.
Two females and one male were placed into enclosed bomas close to Getty House to allow them sufficient time to adapt to their new surroundings, and the remaining five were protected in bomas near Forest Lodge. They were all successfully released onto the Reserve on 27 February 2008.
The introduction of these eight servals follows the release of eight other servals that were successfully reintroduced onto Phinda land in May 2007. The overall aim of these reintroductions is to increase and re-establish a breeding population of serval on Phinda and surrounding areas. The cats will be monitored closely to establish the success of the reintroduction project.
