A Day in the 'Living Desert'
July 2007
As we all know animal distribution in the Namib Desert is dependant on a number of contributing limiting factors including water and food availability. Our new "Agama Camp" used on the Namibia Under Canvas Thirstland and Andersons Expeditions is located on a buffer zone between the Naukluft Mountains and the Namib Desert and has access to mountainous terrain and grassy plains. Within these two ecosystems there are a variety of game species present including large herds of Springbok and the Hartmann's Mountain Zebra. On a recent expedition both guests and guide were equally surprised when they encountered a sighting of not just one but eight cheetah on their drive into the camp. This is the second cheetah sighting in the area so we hope that our good luck continues. The Namib Desert is, and always will, remain a fascinating place.
