Profile: Casmir Shija has been a guide for &Beyond since 2001. Born in Dar es Salaam, he grew up in Arusha, from where his father used to take him to various national parks to see wild animals. This inspired Casmir to develop an interest in wildlife. He attended various courses to become a game ranger, including studying at the Professional Tour Guides College in Arusha in 1999 and attending &Beyond Mwewe Ranger Training in the Serengeti in 2000. In 2005 Casmir attended the Fundamental Ornithology Course in Naivasha, Kenya.

One of the company’s best rangers, Casmir has worked in all the national parks on the northern circuit in Tanzania and the Maasai Mara in Kenya. He is now based at &Beyond Lake Manyara Tree Lodge, where he uses his knowledge and experience to help mentor new guides who join the team. When guiding, Casmir never fails to deliver more than his guests expect. Observing the behaviour of big cats, birding and wildlife photography are some of his biggest interests.
