Profile: Although originally from Cape Town, Claire Lacey spend most of her childhood holidays either on a family farm in the Karoo or travelling to game reserves in and around South Africa. All this time spent in the bush meant that it became her passion and she knew from a very young age that she wanted to be a ranger.

When Claire finished school she threw herself into game ranging and lodge management studies. During her studies, she visited one of &Beyond's lodges and promptly fell in love with the company and all that it stands for. As soon as Claire finished studying she applied for &Beyond's Inkwazi ranger training course and she has been at &Beyond Madikwe Safari Lodge ever since completing it.

As well as being a ranger, Claire relishes her job as a mentor, involved in guiding the trainee rangers that join the Madikwe team.

According to Claire, the best thing about being a ranger is waking up every morning and never knowing what excitement the day has in store.
