Cyst was born in the Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area. He was educated in one of the schools in this area and while living with wildlife he developed a passion for the natural environment. After studying electrical installation, Cyst decided to follow his passion and studied guiding at a wildlife college in Arusha. In 1998 he joined &BEYOND, which Cyst says was a realization of his vision, to be involved with an organization which linked people and conservation. Cyst trained at &BEYOND's training school in South Africa, Inkwazi, and has worked at all of &BEYOND's lodges in Tanzania and Kenya. Cyst's real love for exploring has been realized with his recent appointment as senior ranger for the Serengeti Tanzania Under Canvas camp, where he will be part of a team that moves around the exploring the Serengeti. As a guide Cyst is a passionate generalist with a quick, friendly smile. He loves sharing knowledge and ideas with people. He also values conservation education very highly. In all the areas that he has worked, he has been involved in conservation lessons for the children of the local communities. Cyst's nature is shown by the fact that he was a quarterly Bateleur award winner in 2001, which is a &BEYOND award for someone with a great attitude, who goes beyond the call of duty in his position. Cyst has also always been a regular contributor to the &BEYOND eco-journal and Wildwatch annuals, where he has been able to recount his experiences exploring Tanzania with &BEYOND.
