Fannie's enthusiasm for things natural, leopards in particular, led him to pursue a career in tracking. He is the Head Tracker at Ngala and has obtained tracker level three status. His passion for leopards has driven him to becoming an extremely successful tracker of these elusive cats. Fannie is responsible for the habituation of all leopard cubs on the reserve and has been featured in a number of documentaries involving this process.
