Name: Jason Du Plessis Country: Tanzania, United Republic Of
Profile:
I was born in Johannesburg, but my childhood was spent growing up in Botswana, a truly beautiful country. It is also without doubt where my love of wildlife and the outdoors began. I trained as a game ranger in South Africa and then went on to work at Welgevonden, a private game reserve in the Waterberg. However, the draw of the ocean soon had me checking out the wildlife below sea level and once I saw all the amazing creatures the decision to become a dive instructor was the natural progression – a ranger of the ocean! Now all things ocean are my passion. I enjoy fishing (catch and release), underwater photography and am an avid kitesurfer. Through this great profession Karen, my wife, and I have been able to work in some great locations such as Mozambique, Egypt, the British Virgin Islands and Belize, before landing on the idyllic Mnemba Island Lodge. I have about 1500 dives and still look forward to every moment underwater, from giving people their first breath on scuba, to showing certified divers my ‘office’. I enjoy all animals and fish. Some of my favourites range from the smallest, such as shrimps and nudibranchs with all their amazing colours to the largest such as whalesharks, mantas, whales, dolphins and particularly sharks. I have been fortunate to dive with a wide variety of sharks, such as Tigers, Bull sharks (Zambezi’s), Hammerheads, Oceanic Black Tips and Dusky’s, to name but a few! Each day the ocean promises something spectacular!
