Markus was born and raised in Nairobi where he went to the German school. He was introduced to the bush early on when his parents took him to the Masai Mara. He grew up loving it and on weekends would pack up and go to places like Amboseli, Laikepea, Meru and the Aberdairs. When he finished school, he came to South Africa to do his ranger training at the Bush Academy, where he later joined. Markus started off at Phinda where he worked for one and a half years and has now moved to Kirkmans Kamp in the Sabi Sand Reserve.
