Born in Songea, Tanzania, Mohammed started with as a waiter at Klein's Camp in 1997. A year later he had been trained as a guide and has now gone on to become a Level III guide (the highest level in Tanzania) and a qualified walker. Two of Mohammed's key interests are walking and plants, and a course in birding at Elsamere College in Naivasha, Kenya, fostered an interest in ornithology and the impacts rural communities can sometimes have on natural habitats. As a result Mohammed has been active teaching conservation principles in the community bordering Klein's Camp. Mohammed has also applied himself to research at Klein's Camp and won a prize for one of the best contributions to the company's 2002 Ecological Journal for his work on the area's Cheetah. Mohammed has been head ranger at Klein's camp and now has decided to join the Tanzania Under Canvas team as it will give him the opportunity to explore the Serengeti, with a very dynamic team. Mohammed is a knowledgeable attentive guide, who enjoys learning from others as well as interpreting the natural environment. In 2002 he visited &BEYOND's lodges in South Africa, as he was a Bateleur award winner for his sterling performance and attitude.
