Name: Ruth Murphy Country: Tanzania, United Republic Of
Profile:
Ruth was born in Orange, Australia and discovered her passion for travel and marine life at any early age. After living in London for five years, she decided to move to the Caribbean in 2008 to become a full-time dive instructor. After working on the island of Utila as a dive instructor and guide, Ruth moved to Mozambique with her partner Mike where they managed a dive centre and watersports outlet on the Manta Coast. Ruth quickly established herself as the dive guru of the area and became the person to go to find the harder to spot denizens of the reef. Known as “The Frog Queen” to her friends, she has a knack of finding creatures in the most well-hidden locations, such as frogfish (hence the name!), ghost pipefish, leaf fish and orang-utan crabs to name but a few. Ruth has been one of the few lucky people to witness the “Big 5”, whilst scuba diving. She has been fortunate enough to encounter on scuba: manta rays, whale sharks, dolphins, humpback whales and turtles. Ruth takes great pride in taking nervous beginners to the ocean for the first time, helping them to grow in confidence and become competent certified divers. Due to her natural rapport with guests, she has forged many close friendships with her students/divers over the years.
Ruth and Mike joined &Beyond in 2011 as Mnemba Island Dive Instructors, and look forward to many years of showing guests the wonders that the crystal blue waters of Mnemba Atoll have to offer.
