Name: Syldion Semazina Nickname: Galago Country: Tanzania, United Republic Of
Profile: Syldion Semazina was born in a rural subsistence farming area in the Kagera region’s Ngara district in north western Tanzania. His parents were both teachers, whose dream it was to see their son follow in their footsteps. However, Syldion had other ideas. After getting his primary education at a missionary school, Syldion completed a government high school, after which he trained at the Hotel and Tourism Training Institute in Dar es Salaam, specialising in food production. Syldion joined &Beyond (then CC Africa) in 2001, working in Lake Manyara National Park as a chef. It is here that he claims a lot of magic took place. Working and living in the reserve, Syldion felt every closer to the land, falling in love with its wildlife and its beauty. In 2008, as a result of great personal effort, and with a lot of help from &Beyond's guides, managers and trainers, Syldion successfully completed the company’s Mwewe Ranger Training School. He is currently working at &Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, where, along with his fellow team members, he shares all the knowledge he has with his guests. Apart from full time guiding, Syldion loves to travel when on leave. And, as he says, “Never say never. Isn’t guiding just a variation of the teaching that I never wanted to do before? But it is about how I do it, not about what I do.”
