Toast grew up as a Boy scout and a keen adventurer. During school he partook in many fishing, canoeing and hiking trips, the highlight of which was summiting Mt.Kilimanjaro in 1994. After finishing his matric in Grahamstown he travelled to a few African countries and extensively around South Africa getting a feeling for his homeland and its people. In between then and now, he has been a Music teacher, English teacher, Band Musician, Computer technician and Book seller.

It was only 2006 that Toast fulfilled his dream of a life in the bush and began guiding at Kwandwe Private Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape near his home town.

His special interests are Chameleons and Bees.
