1st SEPTEMBER, 1st FLAMIGOS, 1st LEOPARD...
I was privileged enough to take one of the &Beyond Directors, Kevin and his family (Ashley and Alex) on game drive. We were mainly birding and it was a good morning. We went into one of the islands, which we can only access when the water level is low. Today the water level was just reducing. So, we did not know what to expect as we had only driven on the island on two occasions this year. We came across a five day old buffalo carcass which had been killed by lions. We saw the lions feeding on it two days back. There were a good number of short-tailed eagles there. We even saw a white-headed vulture! As we continued with our birding, Kevin spotted a flock of birds in the distance. We saw the beautiful pink colour as it reflected from the morning sunlight. It was lesser flamingos, a flock that could reach a number of hundred. We watched them for a while until they disappeared. To top everything up we saw a young leopard on our way back to camp, which is the first one for my tracker Vincent and since we returned from leave.
