Matetsi
Before the mighty Zambezi River reaches the thundering splendour of the Victoria Falls, it passes the stylish and luxurious Matetsi Game Lodges - Water Lodge and Safari Camp. Matetsi is set on the same riverbanks about which the great explorer David Livingstone wrote so extensively. For unrivalled elegance and the exclusivity of 15km of private river frontage, Matetsi Game Lodges are an idyllic Zambezi retreat.

A feast of Feasting Lions!
On this morning Game Drive we had the opportunity to see the Matetsi Safari Camp pride of lions again. Just on arrival at the Westwood Vlei, we saw a male lion chasing a lioness. We were so surprised that their focuss was not focused on the 500 plus buffalo just a few metres from them. On casting our eyes further to the left side, we then saw 4 more male lions who formed a circle with heads almost cemented together. We suspected that this could not be a fight and that something was happening.
We then drew closer and discovered that they were hastily devouring a buffalo calf. This was happening so fast to the extent that at the end it would appear as if nothing actually happened. We were convinced to say the poor victim did not feel any pains nor peril and rested in peace but not pieces in its next life in the big cats' bellies.
We suspected that the fifth male chased off the female soon after she had made the kill although he also was denied the right to eat until the whole carcass had been fully consumed.
The lioness then proceeded to search for her cubs that had been driven off by the male lions the previous day. She continued to call profusely until she disappeared into the bushes.
We all enjoyed this, guests, tracker and ranger. It was just a feast of a sighting on these beasts feasting on their stolen fresh meal.
