Madikwe Safari Lodge
Madikwe Safari Lodge is situated in the heart of the richly diverse and malaria-free 76 000-hectare (187 800-acre) Madikwe Game Reserve – one of South Africa’s biggest wildlife sanctuaries. Famed for Operation Phoenix, the world’s largest game translocation exercise with the introduction of more than 8 000 animals, Madikwe’s diverse geology and broad mix of habitats allows a wide range of African wildlife to flourish – including the Big Five, cheetah and a thriving population of wild dog.

Action packed game drive
The morning started by being late for drive due to an elephant road block. Once I had picked the guests up we got caught in another road block. While waiting to pass we saw a herd of buffalo in the distance once we managed to get closer we started counting, until we lost count after 230 buff. We then took a turn past the ever exciting wild dogs, a whole 16 of them. We then decided to stop for a well deserved cup of coffee on the airstrip. That first sip was like gold then suddenly a herd of impala came bounding out the bush. We packed up and drove to investigate. Unfortunatly a young impala ewe had fallen prey to 4 lions. 1 impala is not much for 4 lions and as usuall a massive fight ensued. We headed home for breakfast.
