Home Sightings India Wildlife Baghvan Albino Chital
 |
Baghvan
Baghvan is aptly named after one of India's iconic symbols, the Bengal tiger (bagh - tiger and van - forest). This enchanting lodge is located on the edge of Pench National Park, a dry deciduous forest of predominantly teak trees and meandering jungle streams.
A typical Central Indian teak jungle, Pench supports a rich variety of wildlife, including the tiger, leopard, wild dog, gaur, sambar, chital and brilliant birdlife. The Park's open habitat not only lends well to wildlife viewing, but it also offers striking views of the area's sheer beauty. This national park received international recognition from Rudyard Kipling's classic tale, the Jungle Book.

Albino Chital
Chital or Spotted Deer is the most common deer you see in almost all parks in India. Pench National Park supposed to have one of the highest density. On 19th morning i had just missed the Tiger which i heard calling and drove on the road parallel to the road where this Tiger had walked, later coming to this road and seeing the pug marks going into the jungle from the road i stopped the vehicle and was scanning. Suddenly the Park Guide with me said 'look at the Chital' in excitement. I wondered why he is getting excited for the this herd of chital walking in the bush, as i looked carefully a completely while color Chital fawn came out from behind a tree! it looked like a While Goat kid or a lamb! I could not see any spots and most of time the grass was covering the face so i could not see the eye color. But the it had really bright white fur glowing in the sunlight. It was just less than 2 months old. luckily it had survived for this long as they can be spotted easily by predators. I hope it survives for long so that many can watch at this little Albino Chital and enjoy. Few days later Karun got some record shots.
