Madikwe Safari Lodge
Madikwe Safari Lodge is situated in the heart of the richly diverse and malaria-free 76 000-hectare (187 800-acre) Madikwe Game Reserve – one of South Africa’s biggest wildlife sanctuaries. Famed for Operation Phoenix, the world’s largest game translocation exercise with the introduction of more than 8 000 animals, Madikwe’s diverse geology and broad mix of habitats allows a wide range of African wildlife to flourish – including the Big Five, cheetah and a thriving population of wild dog.

AMAZING BLACK RHINO
After many days of searching, I finally saw my first black rhino in this reserve. It was a cold morning when we were driving to the southern end of the reserve in the hope of finding wild dog, when the bush exploded and a rhino stopped a short distance from us. He was huffing, puffing and snorting away. We had clearly disturbed him. He stared at us, seemingly not sure of what to do next. Whilst the rhino was staring at us, I thought that he might charge again. I took the time to take a quick photo. As I took the photo, he turned and crashed though the bush. That’s the last we saw of him. It was amazing! It was worth waiting five and a half months to see this! I just hope that I am lucky to see the next one sooner.
