AN UNUSUAL VISITOR TO SOSSUSVLEI DESERT LODGE
Cattle egrets are generally common in most parts of Southern Africa but not that common in the desert especially at Sossusvlei. These egrets are associated with large herds of animals and are normally found in large numbers, as the herds move through the grass, they flush insects. These insects are what the egrets are preying on. This year at Sossusvlei Desert Lodge there has been a fair amount of rain in comparison to the pevious year’s rainfall. This single bird was discovered in front of the lodge. Ronnie the head guide came running to alert me about it and asked I take a picture as proof.
