Banjaar Tola
One of the largest and most scenic wildlife sanctuaries in India, Kanha National Park is an ideal habitat for both tigers and their prey species. The lush sal and bamboo forests, grassy meadows and ravines of Kanha shelter a significant population of rare species such as tiger, leopard, sloth bear, barasingha and wild dog. Kanha's mixed forests are interspersed with vast meadows known as maidans. These meadows support a high density of herbivores, including chital, barasingha, sambar and gaur, attracting predators such as the tiger, dhole or leopard to the fringes of the clearings. Perennial streams run through a number of such meadows, providing a source of water for the wildlife even in the hot summers. Kanha meadow, with its hundreds of chital grazing on a carpet of green grass against the backdrop of the majestic Sal forest, has been aptly referred to as 'the Ngorongoro of India". |

It's always interesting to watch a troop of langurs - especially when they have young ones. After spending almost half an hour watching them, one of the young ones came in front of our car and started posing as if he was dancing! This sighting was the highlight of the safari for my guests.

It was very hot and we decided that we'll go to a water hole for the afternoon jungle drive (where we had a glimpse of a tiger that morning). As soon as we got there, we heard rhesus macaque making alarm calls. I scanned the area using my binoculars and I saw this tiger approaching the water! To our surprise, he was also feeling a bit hot, and sat in the...

To see a sloth bear is not so easy in Kanha because of their shy nature and nocturnal activity but seeing three eating insects in meadows was a great sighting.

Elephants are considered as true 4x4 vehicles of the dense Indian jungle. They are used by forest authority's for monitoring and patrolling tiger movements in the jungle. As they went patrolling early one morning, we were lucky to see them mounting.

A few guests decided not to come for the morning drive but a couple said "The forest is full of surprises and you never know what is waiting for us". So, we started off and we were the first jeep to enter - after about 10 minutes, we spotted a leopard up on a tree.
