Baghvan
Baghvan is aptly named after one of India's iconic symbols, the Bengal tiger (bagh - tiger and van - forest). This enchanting lodge is located on the edge of Pench National Park, a dry deciduous forest of predominantly teak trees and meandering jungle streams.
A typical Central Indian teak jungle, Pench supports a rich variety of wildlife, including the tiger, leopard, wild dog, gaur, sambar, chital and brilliant birdlife. The Park's open habitat not only lends well to wildlife viewing, but it also offers striking views of the area's sheer beauty. This national park received international recognition from Rudyard Kipling's classic tale, the Jungle Book. |

Apart from Tigers and Leopards, Dholes (Wild Dogs) are another important predator species found in Pench. Late in the evening, while we were making our way out of the Park, we come across a pack of five Dholes feeding on a freshly killed Chital (Spotted Deer) stag. We were lucky to get the opportunity to watch them feed, mark territory and bond for over...

We had a family who were first time visitors to the wilderness, and on their very first drive, were keen on seeing the elusive Tiger. With a short afternoon drive ahead of us, we took a chance on visiting a spot where we heard a Tigress had made a kill. On approaching the spot, we were greeted with deathly silence. It was shattered by a sudden outpouring...

On this morning drive, we had just seen two male Nilgai (Blue Bulls) in a fight for dominance. As we moved away from the scene, our run of luck took an incredulous turn. We saw a dog-like animal in the road ahead. To our amazement, it was a wolf, a very rare sight inside the Park! We followed it for a full 5 minutes till it veered off the track.

A cold winter morning drive gave us this unusual sight of a large wild boar feeding on the carcass of a Chital (Spotted Deer). Wild boars are known to be omnivores, it's more common to see them digging for tubers and roots. This was a special sighting indeed, and we were able to observe the boar feeding for over 10 minutes before we moved on.

Spotting tigers in the Indian jungle is a really a matter of luck and chance, but seeing 5 tigers on a jungle drive is something everyone wishes for. On our morning jungle drive we ended up seeing 2 tigress at different places with 3 cubs.

It is interesting to watch a troop of Langurs playing in the early hours, but a Rhesus macaque has an infamous amount of attention due to its aggressive behaviour. Although seen seldom in forests than in cities, the macaques usually enjoy fruits, barks, termites and other insects, as well as occasionally spiders and scorpions too. But I have not seen...

I was driving my guests Maria, Deepti and Aneet chako. They already had a good tiger sighting and Maria wanted to see a sloth bear. The weather was cloudy and pleasant. I felt that the weather seemed favourable and after an hour as we were watching a troop of langur behind at some distance, I saw some movement. It was a sloth bear and we followed it for...

Driving by a rocky terrain in the park we heard the warning calls of a squirrel. This could have been for anything - a snake, mongoose, bird of prey. We were scanning the area whilst the vehicle was moving & I spotted something unusual, almost like a dry moss on a rock. Stopping to check I couldn’t believe my eyes - a RUSTY SPOTTED CAT! Very...

To watch a leopard on a kill, as well as in a tree is always exciting. Recently I got a chance to witness that. I was driving back to the lodge and came to the spot where one of the vehicles had already spotted the leopard in a tree with a kill. It was so exciting to see the leopard with a spotted deer faun kill. We managed to take a few photos.
