Mnemba Island
Mnemba Island is the ultimate escape. Selected by Condé Nast Traveler as one of the three most romantic ocean destinations in the world, Mnemba surpasses all expectations. The island is an incomparable barefoot paradise: private cottages are hidden in the dappled shade. The soothing rhythms of tide and time will ease your entire being - mind, body and soul.

For a few weeks snorkellers on Mnemba's house reef have been delighted by five juvenille Longfin Batfish (Platax teira). In their juvenille form this species has incredibly long dorsal and pectoral fins and almost looks like a boomerang! Unafraid, if snorkellers keep still these plucky young guys rise to the surface and come to take a close look at you....

After a 10 minute swim with a pod of dolphins on the way to the dive this morning, I thought we'd had our fair share of good luck... but I was wrong. Five minutes in to our dive on Grouper's Rock the pod came to see us once more... lady luck was not finished with us yet! We rarely see dolphins on scuba, they don't seem to like the bubbles... this group...

We've had an amazing week with dolphins... so far the guests have been swimming with them every day! Five minutes boat ride from the island is a beautiful sandy area that seems the favourite haunt for several pods. Today we were lucky and the dolphins were realxed and playful, twisting in circles around us and generally showing off. A once in a life time...

Wow, what a morning! After a guest had spotted turtle tracks on the beach I went to have a look... expecting to find a new nest but the mother to be long gone. I got quite a surprise as I rounded the point to see a huge green turtle making her way back to the sea! Running to fetch the guests having breakfast we quickly measured and tagged her before she...

With 2 guests we decended into deep blue on a dive site called Aquarium. With in 5 minutes, 18 metres down a beautiful nudi branch (under water molusk with out a shell) danced past us. This nudi branch is called a spanish dancer because of the way it's edges move like a frilly dress when it free swims. This sighting is very rare for us to see in day hours...

Another very successful turtle hatching was held on Mnemba Island with 106 of the healthy little tikes finding their way down the beach to the sea. One lucky couple arrived and had their check in and orientation whilst watching one of life's wildlife treasures and sipping champagne, not a bad introduction to Island Life!

This morning on the walk in to the office I stumbled across the baby duiker whichi s living in the forest. This juvenile was born here and has managed to grow quite accustomed to the comings and goings of people walking the path and so is quite unperturbed which is unusual for this normally skittish species. Hopefully more pictures will follow.
