Xaranna
andBEYOND's Xaranna Tented Camp is situated near a permanent channel of the Okavango Delta in 25 000 hectares of pristine wilderness that is shared by only 18 guests. The Camp boasts breathtaking views of the channel, providing guests with a water and wilderness experience that combines the best of what the Okavango has to offer. Birders should watch out for the elusive Pel's fishing owl, while the endangered African wild dog and semi-aquatic red lechwe are endemic to the area.

The Big Birding Day lived to it's title when we spotted the most sought-after yet elusive 'ginger' bird, the pel's fishing owl.It took us about 2 kilometres on the northern part of the camp to pick it up.It was perched in between dark canopy of riverine trees only for the eagle birders to locate it.I believe this is a must-have 'asset' in a birder's list.

Because of the location of the Xaranna tented camp, birding is so easy and enjoyable just form the comfort of the lodge its self. The morning birds bring to life another day in the delta, with the songs of the White-Browed Robin-Chat and the hooting of the African Scops owl silently in the back ground dawn has broken. Other birds in camp are the...
