Kirkman's Kamp, with its spectacular views of the unspoilt wilderness and the Sabi Sand River, is regarded as one of the best loved lodges in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve. A well known historic camp, originally built in the early 1920's Kirkmans Kamp celebrates the atmosphere of an early South African lowveld homestead.
BIG BIRD - BIG SURPRISE
Recently the Kirkman’s Kamp team took part in the Big Birding day competition and we very pleasantly surprise to find out what some of the birds were eating on the reserve. On one occasion we came across a ground hornbill with a tortoise. I have on previous occasions seen these impressive birds with snakes and rodents as well as frogs, but never considered a tortoise to be part of their appetite. On another occasion a yellow billed hornbill was feeding on a scorpion. It is fantastic that we learn something new every day when we're out in the bush.
