Kirkman's Kamp, with its spectacular views of the unspoilt wilderness and the Sabi Sand River, is regarded as one of the best loved lodges in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve. A well known historic camp, originally built in the early 1920's Kirkmans Kamp celebrates the atmosphere of an early South African lowveld homestead.
Blach Rhino @ Kirkman's Kamp
For a very long time our ranging team was patrolling the southern boundary of Kirkman’s Kamp for Black Rhino activity. Until Markus found a fresh Black Rhino midden and tracks coming in from the Kruger National Park Easily he identified the exactly 45 degrees cut branches of the midden as a proof of Black Rhino coming into the area. This morning the signs got confirmed. Jabulani – one of our chefs – was on his way to work early in the morning. A black rhino was blocking his way, snorting at him and then ran off into a thicket. This is the first black rhino seen in the last two years. But most likely a rhino with future since the young male was probably the one marking his territory in the area.
