CHEETAH CHASE
A mother and 3 young cheetah had been found. Cheetah always cause great excitement because it’s the big cat we see least frequently at Ngala. We arrived to find the 3 youngsters chasing and tackling each other with mom lying a little bit away from them. All of a sudden the mother got up, straight into stalk mode, as in the distance she had spotted a herd of Impala. The youngsters followed suite and all 4 stealthily closed the gap with the stalk turning into a canter and then they were off. The speed was electrifying as the chase unveiled in the clearings in front of us, side stepping and cornering, and finally a cloud of dust as an Impala ram was tackled to the ground.
As we got closer it became apparent that it was only the 3 youngsters on the kill, mom was nowhere to be seen. They had successfully made a kill on their own and were enjoying the spoils. In the distance we could hear a high pitched call. The 3 youngsters responded to their mother's call and obediently left their carcass in search of mom, whom had also made a kill. The vultures arrived in no time and devoured the first carcass, while the 4 cheetahs made short time of finishing the other.
