Chobe Riverfront Home of the Elephant
There is nothing more relaxing than an afternoon boat cruise on the Chobe River. Starting mid afternoon and heading downstream you get to see quiet a bit along the river banks. Hippos on islands and antelop on the waters edge. Although it is the elephants that are the main attraction. On one such afternoon while heading down stream we saw breeding herd after breeding herd making their way down the steep banks to get the the waters edge. Some holding back on the top waiting patiently for the others to finish quenching their thirst. At time the patience grows thin and you can see the elders females start rocjing backwards and forwards longing to reach the water. With the weather growing warmer these days we were also lucky enough to watch as the younger elephants start jousting with each other on the the waters edge and them move further inot the water. Pushing each other in a show of strength and then finally giving out to the pleasure of a playful swim. Parade ofter parade of these creatures making their way down to the waters of the Chobe River to have their share, while we sip and take in the glorious scences while quenching our thurst with a refreshing gin and tonic.
