CHOBE'S LIONS ON MORNING GAME DRIVE
The early game drives in Chobe are my favourite. The crisp cold air, the warm water bottle nestled on your lap and the tracks on the roads betraying the animal’s whereabouts from the previous night. Meier, our guide on this particular trip came to the breakfast table and inquired as to whether we'd heard the lions that had roared early that morning. With great excitement, we set out to try and find them. Meier’s keen eyes scouring the road ahead, looking for fresh tracks on a road. It’s amazing the amount of knowledge one acquires when you have been working in a park for a long time and while driving, Meier told us stories of the lions that roamed that area, their life cycles and how many we were likely to see. The steam from his breath had but evaporated when we turned around a thicket and there, walking down a game path were the lions that we had heard about. Watching those lions felt like we had been a part of their lives for years. Thanks to Meiers' sharing of knowledge. Chobe is such a special place!
