Madikwe Safari Lodge
Madikwe Safari Lodge is situated in the heart of the richly diverse and malaria-free 76 000-hectare (187 800-acre) Madikwe Game Reserve – one of South Africa’s biggest wildlife sanctuaries. Famed for Operation Phoenix, the world’s largest game translocation exercise with the introduction of more than 8 000 animals, Madikwe’s diverse geology and broad mix of habitats allows a wide range of African wildlife to flourish – including the Big Five, cheetah and a thriving population of wild dog.

Close but no cigar
We were driving up the eastern bountry to try and relocate on 7 sub-adult lions, when we came across a huge giraffe bull. We stopped to view him and then carried on about 100m and bumped into the lions moving down towards the giraffe. We positioned ourselves as not to get in the way, and sat tight holding our breathes. The 7 lions stalked to within 10 m of the unsespecting giraffe. This was it !!! Then out the blue some vervet monkeys across the river saw the lions and started alarm calling. The giraffe knew something was up and hit the road at serious pace. The chase was on. The lions missed. So close yet so far !!!
