Eagle Eye

We were on our way into the south of the reserve when we passed a dam and suddenly disturbed a huge Marshal Eagle sitting in a tree with a fresh Water Monitor kill. It was fascinating to see how large the water monitor was and immediately we all felt a huge sense of amazement at how powerful the Marshal Eagle must have been to subdue such a creature. It’s not often that we get to see Marshal Eagles with kills, as the bird itself is quite rare to see. I told my guests that they should enjoy the sighting as it is not something we are likely to see again anytime soon. Well, did I ever swallow my words! That could not have been further from the truth! The very next morning we came around a corner and low and behold, right in front of us in a tree, another Marshal Eagle with a Rock monitor kill, a little larger than the water monitor, but a monitor non the less!
