Klein's Camp
In the heart of Maasai territory on the north-eastern boundary of the Serengeti National Park is a private concession of 10 000 hectares, set aside for the exclusive use of Klein's Camp's 20 guests. The spectacular location of the camp on the edge of the Kuka Hills commands sweeping views across a broad valley through which the annual great migration passes. |
EARLY IS BEST
On an early morning drive we headed out at 06h00 as this is the best time to view animals while it is still cool and quiet. We drove along Grumeti River and found two male lions near Silio crossing. We drove closer to watch them. Whilst watching them we saw a bunch of zebras licking mineral salt at Silio. One male walked towards the zebras through the bushes and another followed again stalking the zebras. Zebras have a very good sense of smelling and processing alarm calls to alert each other as a defense mechanism. The zebras all ran away and the lion hide in the bush to wait for another opportunity. We drove towards North area where we found a lion mating with a limping female of the same pride of black rock. This early morning drive was the best drive ever!
