Elephants with no tusks
A few members of a heard of elephants moving through the area had either only one tusk or non at all. Our ranger Vincent also noted that the one elephant’s tusk look broken. Why this has occurred we do not know but hope somebody has an explanation.
I have been to Africa a number of times and most of the guides tell me that the tusks break off from fighting and digging in the mud for water. I have seen a number of elephants with just one tusk or broken tusks.
