Madikwe
Madikwe Safari Lodge is situated in the heart of the richly diverse and malaria-free 76 000-hectare (187 800-acre) Madikwe Game Reserve – one of South Africa’s biggest wildlife sanctuaries. Famed for Operation Phoenix, the world’s largest game translocation exercise with the introduction of more than 8 000 animals, Madikwe’s diverse geology and broad mix of habitats allows a wide range of African wildlife to flourish – including the Big Five, cheetah and a thriving population of wild dog.

endangered brown
one of the very special animals we get here on madikwe is the rare and threatened brown hyeana. it is a very shy and elusive creature that covers many kilometers a night in search for food. during the day it is sayed that brown hyeana are social animals helping with the upbringing of the alpha females cubs and at night they are solitary scavangers.
last night we saw 3 different brown hyeana sightings all in the same area- this behaviour maked us come to a conclusion that there must be a den around.... we will be monitoring the area alot more in the next nights to come.
