In the heart of Maasai territory on the north-eastern boundary of the Serengeti National Park is a private concession of 10 000 hectares, set aside for the exclusive use of Klein's Camp's 20 guests. The spectacular location of the camp on the edge of the Kuka Hills commands sweeping views across a broad valley through which the annual great migration passes.
FIGHTING OVER TERRITORY!
It is always exciting to see animals in action. As we were driving toward the northern part of the game reserve we saw two male Thomson gazelles fighting. We drove a little closer. They were not even bothered with our presence. They kept on fighting. They were both tired and were breathing heavily. I think they were fighting for 20 minutes. One of them horned down the rival and ran away. It was interesting to see them in action and understand that sometimes you have to stand on your own feet to protect your territory.
Male Thomson gazelle's are so bright knowing that to conquer a good territory which will attract females, they have to fight each one in order to pass over their genes.
