Madikwe
Madikwe Safari Lodge is situated in the heart of the richly diverse and malaria-free 76 000-hectare (187 800-acre) Madikwe Game Reserve – one of South Africa’s biggest wildlife sanctuaries. Famed for Operation Phoenix, the world’s largest game translocation exercise with the introduction of more than 8 000 animals, Madikwe’s diverse geology and broad mix of habitats allows a wide range of African wildlife to flourish – including the Big Five, cheetah and a thriving population of wild dog.

finfoot in madikwe
we went looking for hippo this morning along the groot marico river which meanders in and out of the eastern boundary of the reserve. as we arrived at a very popular spot for hippo we found that they where not there. we sat for about two minutes in silence hoping they would come swimming down the river, out of nowhere this african finfoot comes in to the open and swims across the river in clear view!!! this bird has only been seem on this reserve a handful of times and does not occur in this region according to bird books.
unfortunately my camera battery died as i got it out so no proof can be given, so you just going to have to take my word for it:)
