Flying night dive at Mnemba
On the 10th of June, we decided to make a night dive with five more experienced divers. The dive site of choice was Moonvalley-cabbage coral. As usual, the briefing was to mainly look for small nocturnal creatures, invisible during the day-dives. This time it was a bit different. The current was blasting and once down, there was no way to slow down and look for smaller stuff. So we all lined up next to each other and went with the flow. All torches pointed forward, we illuminated quite a bit on the surface of the reef. We could not keep up with all the marine life that rushed underneath, along, above and around us. It didn’t stop. Uncountable Rays, Bluespotted as well as Kuhl’s Stingrays, a huge Black Blotched Ray, Squids, hundreds of Unicorn Fish, free-swimming yellow Margined and Undulated Moray Eels, all went by in a flash. In one dive we covered three dive sites!! As all divers were experienced and could easily handle the current, it was a lot of fun and as there are no cops in the ocean, we couldn’t get a speed ticket...
