Footprints of Hope
Born from a sheer passion and desire to make a lasting difference to plights in need, the team of FOOTPRINTS OF HOPE (&Beyond and Africa Foundation, together with Gordon Gilbert) developed a challenge to achieve something truly valuable in the areas of wildlife conservation and sustainable community development. A love of the wild and the surrounding communities, as well as a heartfelt concern for the challenges in which each face pulled together a team with a common goal and a “mission impossible” plan of action: an 11 day awareness walk that’s all about empowering communities and enabling conservation.

One morning on our game drive we saw a small herd of buffalo in the Okavango Delta crossing the Gomoti river. We are hoping to see more action from this herd!

I've always believed that to be able to see unbelievable sightings you've got to stay out in the wild for an extended period of time. Against that believe the Sandibe rangers and guests have been so lucky to see the unusual, lately with not much effort. One that is inconceivable is when Shaka and his guests came across a leopard that killed a baby...

Whilst it is true that cheetahs are generally elusive and therefore hard to find the rangers at Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge knows where to go and look for them. More often than not the search will pay off.

In the Sandibe area it is necessary to secure a meal to ensure you don't lose it - as competition is rife amongst predators. It has been an amazing time for leopards in the recent past at Sandibe, as we've seen a number of this kind of sightings.

We have be blessed with sightings of different prides of lions around the Chitabe airstrip at Sandibe, for nearly a month now. The one pride has be restricted to that area because of a very young cub, which got introduced to the family not too long ago. See picture of the new release wrestling with the mum.

One Saturday evening, we were heading towards the Mahua Pani watch tower to catch a glimpse of the sun go down amidst the Vindhyanchal range. As soon as we got off the vehicle we headed towards the edge of the plateau to admire the beautiful Ken river below us when our guide Suresh, suddenly shouted bhaloo (bear). At first we looked around but couldn't...

With temperatures rising in Pench, we entered the park with a plan to check all the water holes along the way for tigers. We were not disappointed, because soon after we reached the second water hole on our track, we spotted this beauty lying near the water. While we waited for the tiger to move, it started getting extremely dark - rainclouds were...

This morning, we were enjoying the beauty of the park, and were excited about visiting a new area. We had managed to spot a variety of animals including gaur, nilgai, jackals, wild boar, spotted deer and langur. As we climbed up an incline, we saw two dholes (wild dogs) streak past us. We were thrilled to have seen them, but disappointed that we couldn't...

This was a magical evening. We found a female leopard with 2 cubs (almost a year old) finishing off the male impala which they've been eating for the last 4 days. The young female was up on a dead tree watching the sun set and the brother and mother were having their last bite. As we drove away, we found another female leopard walking on the road hunting...
