Madikwe Safari Lodge is situated in the heart of the richly diverse and malaria-free 76 000-hectare (187 800-acre) Madikwe Game Reserve – one of South Africa’s biggest wildlife sanctuaries. Famed for Operation Phoenix, the world’s largest game translocation exercise with the introduction of more than 8 000 animals, Madikwe’s diverse geology and broad mix of habitats allows a wide range of African wildlife to flourish – including the Big Five, cheetah and a thriving population of wild dog.

Hyena Den

This hyena den has provided us with hours of pleasure. And nothing was different for us this morning. Got there just after sunrise and mom and her pup was out and about. First the pup was a bit skittish but later on seemed to have forgotten all about our presents there. Exploring was his mission for the morning and had a look, smell and taste at everything around the den. Only 4 months old and easily bored, then started to attack mom, she gave up and made sure everything was save around the den which send the youngster down the den. The little ones progress will be monitor.
