I was exploring the western side of Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve with my guest. As we drove on the other side of a hill a big bird flew in front of us and perched on a dry branch at a distance. Without mistake I knew this was a black capped kingfiesher because I had seen this bird in Pench Tiger Reserve before. Upon researching we realised that this is the...

Sometimes putting a bit of extra effort in the wild bears its own fruits. While trying to look for a tiger that had gone inside a cave we decided to drive a couple of kms ahead on a water hole. Suddenly our guide's eyes caught sight of a rock that looked unusually black in colour. It took us a while to comprehent this Sloth Bear mother with a cub on her...

We were standing at the top of the northern side of the Bandhavgarh hill from where then entire northern range of Bandhvgarh National Park was to be seen. We could hear a flock of Malabar Pied Hornbills at the base of the hill but they were not to be seen. A patient wait of about 10 minutes rewarded us with a rare sighting of more than 20 hornbills caught...

This terracotta tiger placed at the guest parking of Mahua Kothi, Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve is where this Magpie Robin reared her fledglings before they took on to their wings.

Ten minutes after I started my descent from the Bandhavgarh fort with two of my guest, while walking down, we heard warning call of a peahen followed by loud fluttering of its wings. This bird flew above us and descended on the other side of the track. Certainly a predator was around. I signaled my guests to be quiet and slowly follow me. Keeping our eyes...

The deciduous forest of Bandhavgarh goes through astonishing transformation in the month of February. This is one of the most colorful times of the year. Owing to mixed vegetation composition this forest never really looks parched. While trees like Saal still retain their leaves, Tendu, Lendia, Aamla and several others are beginning to dry up fast. All...

3. Jungle seemed to be quiet on a regular winter morning. Our tracker was nestled on the last seat of the vehicle as one of my guest wanted to drive in the front. He was certainly in the enviable position as he could see far and wide. Suddenly he jumped up and called Sloth bear. It took us a while to get the sight of this nonchalant beast, which was...

1. Anticipation of my guests was growing stronger as the track meandered through a dense patch of bamboo forest. As our vehicle took a sharp turn, a raptor sitting a few yards away was taken by surprise. Startled with our presence this bird took on to a very ungainly flight, owing to a jungle bush quail in its talons, which it had caught a few minutes...
