Kenya Wildlife
Kenya is the safari capital of East Africa - especially during the annual Great Migration, round about July. This seasonal event depends largely on the rains, when up to two million wildebeest and zebra - with predators in tow - migrate across the East African plains in search of better grazing. This spectacular wildlife event is a highlight on the tourism calendar. |

It's been a while since I saw the serval cat like we did yesterday. We were there at the right time for this.

We drove alongside a carcass last night and not a predator or scavenger was nearbt. This morning we were optimistic that something was going on and guess what? The hyenas were there opening the zebra carcass! Twenty minutes later two big male lions walked in and the hyenas ran away as fast as they could from the lions' sight.

It beats the eye of a keen observer when such things happen out in the wild bushes of the Masai Mara , and at eight months these cubs are keeping us interested.

Today when we drove south. The Serena pride had something waiting; they had killed a hippo from last night and when we got there the black maned male was still eating. A few moments later a cub walked by to grab something. That's when the male sent her off in authority!

We watched these buffaloes enjoy a mud wallow walk to this tree where the baboons were feeding on catterpillars. The buffaloes were obviously going for a scratch against the tree. What followed was fun to see as all the baboons decided to leap all the way down.

There were about six or so different elephant families in sight. The bulls were causing a scene of which we knew there could only be one thing to cause such aggressiveness... A few moments later we were mesmerised by what followed, and it was the most dominant of the males who got the chance to mate!

Elizabeth and Bury have been to six properties in Kenya and all they wanted to see was a leopard. We set out early and on a termite mound the big male rolled, growled and sawed, a common behaviour when it is breeding time. I can't wait to post that action when the time is right!

Last year we saw 4 lions take over a pride in the Mara , we saw 14 cubs die as a result. Today we are celebrating 9 cubs. Thanks to the four males holding the pride strong and going, here's a photograph of the cubs in a joyful mood, that I saw last evening.

It takes patience in the Mara for one to be rewarded with a black rhino sight and today wasn't an exception. All that waited to be unwrapped was the gift of an adventure of the day...
