Klein's Camp

In the heart of Maasai territory on the north-eastern boundary of the Serengeti National Park is a private concession of 10 000 hectares, set aside for the exclusive use of Klein's Camp's 20 guests. The spectacular location of the camp on the edge of the Kuka Hills commands sweeping views across a broad valley through which the annual great migration passes.

KING ZEBRA!

As the Migration passes through Klein's Camp we often see lots of action: from hunting and killing, as well as seeing the thousands of wildebeest and zebras.

One of the exciting things is this zebra in the accompanying picture. His color is darker than the rest of the zebra. Last year I saw a pale zebra in the area. I thought it was an Albino zebra. But there are other things to look for in an albino zebra other than its overall colouring such as the colour of the eye etc.

A few days ago I saw this dark colour zebra? Will it be a King Zebra as there is a King Cheetah? This is due to the concentration of the Melanin.

Yes male zebras tend to be darker than the females in larger percentages, but these are different markings on him. I hope he is a male. His nickname should be 'King Zebra' as you also thought it should be...
