Leopard kills ostrich on an open plain

We found an adult ostrich that had been killed by a leopard on a drive near bushman's koppjies. This was a remarkable place for a leopard to be able to kill an ostrich. Perhaps the leopards are forced now to hunt out in the open, as with the exceptional grass cover at the moment, the animals have moved away from the hills. In this case, thick grass allowed the leopard to get close to the ostrich. We found the ostrich nearby, which is now the 16th leopard sighting at Sossusvlei Mountain Lodge this year!!
