Home Sightings India Wildlife Baghvan Leopard on a tree
 |
Baghvan
Baghvan is aptly named after one of India's iconic symbols, the Bengal tiger (bagh - tiger and van - forest). This enchanting lodge is located on the edge of Pench National Park, a dry deciduous forest of predominantly teak trees and meandering jungle streams.
A typical Central Indian teak jungle, Pench supports a rich variety of wildlife, including the tiger, leopard, wild dog, gaur, sambar, chital and brilliant birdlife. The Park's open habitat not only lends well to wildlife viewing, but it also offers striking views of the area's sheer beauty. This national park received international recognition from Rudyard Kipling's classic tale, the Jungle Book.

Leopard on a tree
My guests had seen a tigress and a Wolf in the previous Drive so they wanted to see a leopard. After a hour of driving in the park I parked my vehicle to see some birds and suddenly heard an Alarm call of spotted deer which was not too far, I quickly drove to that place and saw a herd of spotted deers running. We went close to that spot but could not see anything. I reversed my vehicle 50 meters and waited for 5 minutes and then came back to same place and still no sign of the predator. Suddenly we looked up on a tree and saw a male leopard staring at us. We got some good shots of this elusive cat on a tree before it vanished. This was an exclusive sighting only my vehicle was there and also the first sighting of a leopard in the beginning of the season in Pench National park.
