Madikwe Safari Lodge is situated in the heart of the richly diverse and malaria-free 76 000-hectare (187 800-acre) Madikwe Game Reserve – one of South Africa’s biggest wildlife sanctuaries. Famed for Operation Phoenix, the world’s largest game translocation exercise with the introduction of more than 8 000 animals, Madikwe’s diverse geology and broad mix of habitats allows a wide range of African wildlife to flourish – including the Big Five, cheetah and a thriving population of wild dog.
lion dart
Three weeks ago I got a radio call while on drive from the ecologist of Madikwe Safari Lodge. He invited us to come see a lion that had been darted to remove his collar that has become unnecessary. As we arrived we could see this massive creature lying on its side faaast asleep! We all jumped of the vehicle and got a closer look. The guest had the opportunity to take photos with a sleeping lion. I got the opportunity to take photos with my macro lens... have a look at what I captured. This was quite a special experience for the guests and me!
