Lionesses in action
During morning tea we were alerted by jackal alarm calls. So we finished up our porridge and headed out. After awhile we came across 2 lionesses, one being very pregnant. They were very relaxed in the open and we watched them until they decided to move. We changed position so they would walk towards us. Suddenly their whole posture changed and we noticed some warthogs near the vehicle. The lionesses then stalked them up to about 15m from the vehicle. The warthogs noticed their presence and tried to run, but it was too late. Both lionesses each got a warthog but after a few minutes the pregnant one released hers. Both lionesses then proceeded to feed on the one larger warthog while it was still alive. It was an interesting spectacle to watch kept us enthralled for well over an hour.
