Sheltering below the plunging walls of the Great Rift Valley lies the quintessentially serene Lake Manyara Tented Camp, tucked in an evergreen forest on bird-rich Lake Manyara. Lake Manyara National Park is where Ernest Hemingway camped on the hunting safari that inspired his book, Green Hills of Africa.
Lions roaring!
The lions here in Manyara don't roar very much may be due to their number with relation to their territories they don't interact that much. But last night we had a great sound of the wild at the lodge as baboons started barking to alarm followed by bushbabies and we knew there must be a predator around. Then around 4am this morning a male lion started roaring very close to the lodge. It sound like it was next to the bed. It was great to hear that sound as we don't hear them very often hear.
