LITTLE SECRETS OF BATELEUR CAMP!
The Masai Mara is known as one of the most incredible game viewing areas on earth and it is hard to compete with the sheer numbers of animals and the vast expanse of grasslands, stretching as far as the eye can see. Tucked away in an enchanting forest and looking out onto the great plains is Bateleur Camp. All day one could relax outside on the veranda while enjoying herds of elephant, buffalo, sometimes thousands of zebra, gazelle, waterbuck, ostrich and even lions, hyena or leopard! Inside this little enchanted forest hide stunning little creatures that most of our guests are unaware of sit quietly waiting to be enjoyed. If you look carefully into the knot holes in the trees you might find a tree hyrax and its youngster enjoying the warm morning sun. We did and every time we returned from our drives we returned to see what our family of hyrax’s was doing and they were there most of the day. Another stunning mammal that is also seen scrambling along the branches is the ochre bush squirrel and as the sun sets and you are enjoying your delicious dinner listen out for movement in the branches. A little torch light will reveal a silver galago. These ones pictured are apparently melanistic forms and are common in the camps!
