Madikwe
Madikwe Safari Lodge is situated in the heart of the richly diverse and malaria-free 76 000-hectare (187 800-acre) Madikwe Game Reserve – one of South Africa’s biggest wildlife sanctuaries. Famed for Operation Phoenix, the world’s largest game translocation exercise with the introduction of more than 8 000 animals, Madikwe’s diverse geology and broad mix of habitats allows a wide range of African wildlife to flourish – including the Big Five, cheetah and a thriving population of wild dog.

Madikwe Dogs
It was the first drive with a group a guests that had just arrived, with the one expectation being the wild dogs. So i explained that they haddent been seen for a while and we where not in the right area to see them. So off we went in search of anything. It was getting late when i got a call on the radio that they where briefly seen, we where close to that area so we decided to go have a quick look as it would be dark soon anyway. We where slowly bumbling down the road on high alert, when out of the dark shadows popped a dog but far in the distance, they where coming our way so i decided that we would wait for them. 1 came past slowley then another by the 3rd they had picked up the speed, they must have heard something! Well then the other 12 dogs came flying past us right next to the vehicle. But the most amazing thing was how fast these animals really are. A couple on the vehicle said this was better than the kill they had seen previously, as the speed they move is amazing. A good surprise to end the day.
