&BEYOND Madikwe
Madikwe Safari Lodge is situated in the heart of the richly diverse and malaria-free 76 000-hectare (187 800-acre) Madikwe Game Reserve – one of South Africa’s biggest wildlife sanctuaries. Famed for Operation Phoenix, the world’s largest game translocation exercise with the introduction of more than 8 000 animals, Madikwe’s diverse geology and broad mix of habitats allows a wide range of African wildlife to flourish – including the Big Five, cheetah and a thriving population of wild dog.

Male lions and cubs!
One morning, while responding to a lion sighting we stumbled across a lioness with 4 young cubs. She was steadily making her way to the other lions who were feeding on a wildebeest kill. We then followed the lioness and cubs, not sure how the other lions would recieve them as there were already 2 big males and 4 lionesses feeding. Luckily the 2 males welcomed the lioness with small grunts and then allowed the 4 small cubs to feed next to him without even a growl!. All the animals then joined in and demolished the wildebeest in record time. It was also quite strange that the 2 males were so relaxed in allowing the others to join in on the feast!.
