Madikwe
Madikwe Safari Lodge is situated in the heart of the richly diverse and malaria-free 76 000-hectare (187 800-acre) Madikwe Game Reserve – one of South Africa’s biggest wildlife sanctuaries. Famed for Operation Phoenix, the world’s largest game translocation exercise with the introduction of more than 8 000 animals, Madikwe’s diverse geology and broad mix of habitats allows a wide range of African wildlife to flourish – including the Big Five, cheetah and a thriving population of wild dog.

Meet and Greet
Mark called me on the radio and told me he found a Back Rhino. With almost 40 in the reserve you would think we see them more often, but this is a drop everything and get there sighting. We were in the same area but still a bit of a drive away, got there in record time just to see the rhino before its going to walk off in the treeline. Decided to follow him offroad not 50m offroad, the rhino turned around and started walking towards us. The rhino kept coming and at one stage I though his going to smell the bonnet. He very casually turn and headed back to were he came form. Awesome to see such an endangered animal that close.
